Hidalgo County Commissioners authorized the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office to accept $270,000 in Department of Justice funds to purchase drones and approved submitting an application for the FY2026 COPS hiring grant with the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
"...request approval for appropriation of DOJ funds in the amount of $270,000 for the purchase of drones for the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office," sheriff's staff said. The court approved both the grant application authorization and the appropriation by voice vote.
County staff said the actions allow the sheriff to certify required documentation and proceed with procurement once funds are received; the items were recorded under the sheriff's office grant and procurement agenda positions.
