The council approved a resolution required by TxDOT to authorize temporary street closures for two County Seat events — May 30, 2026 (7 a.m.–4 p.m.) and Sept. 11, 2026 (noon–3 a.m.) — and separately approved a resolution to allow private organizers to apply for a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) permit for alcohol sales during the Sept. 11 event on the 100 block of East Main.
Nate (city staff) said TxDOT requires a council resolution to process right‑of‑way closure permits and that the alcohol resolution complements the private event organizer’s TABC permit application. "We reached out to our partner cities ... and they told us the most appropriate mechanism was a resolution," staff said.
Councilmembers approved the street‑closure resolution by voice vote. When voting on the alcohol‑permit resolution, one councilmember abstained, citing that the County Seat is a customer of his business; the remaining members approved the resolution so the permit process can move forward.
City staff said these resolutions are standard practice and will streamline permitting for recurring events; both items were placed on the consent/regular agenda and approved at the meeting.
