Airport activity tops 16,000 operations in first quarter, wastewater near engineering threshold

Public works staff told the City Council that airport operations totaled more than 16,000 takeoffs and landings in the first quarter, with roughly 15,000 of those attributable to visiting aircraft, boosting fuel sales and on-field activity.
"At the airport, we had over 16,000 operations, takeoff and landings," Greg said during the quarterly report, adding that only about 510 aircraft are based in Decatur. He also reported first-quarter fuel sales and the city's 9¢ per-gallon share of fuel sold through the fixed-base operator.
On utilities, staff described wastewater and water-treatment flows and the city's planning benchmarks. Staff noted the municipal system tracks 75% and 90% capacity thresholds that trigger engineering and construction planning: "That number is 900,000 gallons [for engineering] and then the 90% is 1,080,000 gallons," Greg said, explaining why the department monitors flows closely.
Why it matters: the airport figures reflect visitor activity that supports fuel and transient operations revenue; wastewater and water-treatment trends will guide timing for engineering studies and, ultimately, capital work if flows continue to rise. Councilors thanked staff and had follow-up questions about capacity and maintenance scheduling.
