Board appoints Jeff Dontz to Airport Authority and Janice McCraner to regional substance use oversight board

On Jan. 5 the board appointed Jeff Dontz to the Manistee County Airport Authority (three-year term) and Janice McCraner to the Northern Michigan Regional Entity Substance Use Disorder Oversight Board (one-year term); both motions passed 6–1 with Commissioner Schmidt dissenting.
The board moved to fill two external positions during the organizational meeting. For the Airport Authority the minutes state: "Moved by McCraner, seconded by Goodman to appoint Jeff Dontz to the Airport Authority to serve a three (3) year term commencing January 1, 2026, and expiring December 31, 2028." That motion passed 6-1 (Richard Schmidt opposed).
Separately, the board appointed Janice McCraner to the Northern Michigan Regional Entity Substance Use Disorder Oversight Board for a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2026 and expiring Dec. 31, 2026; that motion, moved by Shayne Machen and seconded by Nikki Koons, likewise passed 6-1 with Schmidt dissenting. Minutes record no additional qualifying conditions for either appointment.
