Road and Bridge report: chip seal contract awarded for $880,050.65, guardrail and pit work underway

Road & Bridge and engineering staff updated the commission on multiple transportation projects during the Feb. 5 meeting, reporting ongoing guardrail improvements on seven bridges and that Clyde Pit crushing has been completed with seeding partially done.
The county awarded a chip seal contract to Astech in the amount of $880,050.65. Staff said pavement justification and an environmental document for a Forest Service realignment are in progress with a pavement justification study due by the end of 2026. Kenworth trucks have been delivered and Western Star trucks are pending; discussion included lease agreements and plans to advertise surplus equipment after the new trucks arrive.
Pat Redmond and engineer Andrew Krebs also noted two flex funding applications were submitted but not approved and will be resubmitted, and that a DOT bid for 2026 construction is scheduled for Feb. 27. The board asked the State's Attorney to draft a legal agreement for contractor equipment use and prepare an MOU for vendor use of county loaders in gravel pits.
