Barnwell County to inventory costs and move equipment as Generations Unlimited steps back

Barnwell County announced immediate administrative steps after Generations Unlimited presented a resignation letter effective March 2, 2026.
County officials said the Finance Committee will prepare a final expense report to present to County Council. Buildings & Grounds staff were assigned to help move furniture and equipment from the GRU facility, and officials said those activities would begin right away.
Officials also said GRU will retain one van and that food service and some local transportation will continue for the short term while the county and community partners consider next steps. The council did not name a replacement operator or specify a timeline for transferring remaining services to another provider at the March 10 meeting.
Chairman Freddie L. Houston Sr. thanked Ms. Long and GRU staff for their efforts to sustain the program and for attempting to complete required paperwork. The resignation letter was accepted and added to the meeting record.
