Vernon County backs application for up to $2.5 million in EPA recycling infrastructure funds

The Vernon County Board on Dec. 19 approved Resolution 2024-61 authorizing a Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) grant application to the EPA. Solid Waste and Recycling Director Sanborn described the project scope — a front-load packer truck, container infrastructure and an optical sorting system — and Community Development Director Amy Oliver said she helped write the grant and supports the application.
The resolution authorizes the project team to seek up to $2,500,000 and notes there is no match requirement; if awarded, funds are provided up front and awards are expected to be announced in summer 2025.
