Ferguson pledges 'people, passion, progress' and a Clean Water approach for James Island

Jaxi Ferguson, a candidate for Charleston County Council District 9, opened her forum remarks by saying she is "fiercely committed to people" and summarized her campaign in three words: "people, passion, and progress." Ferguson tied those themes to local problems she hears from residents—flooding after storms, increasing traffic, loss of trees and green space—and said she would work across town, city and county lines to prioritize island residents.

Ferguson specifically proposed pursuing "a robust Clean Water Protection Act for Charleston County" to protect marshlands and waterways and said she would hold monthly office hours on every island in her district and respond to constituent concerns within 48 hours. "I want to listen to people, I want to advocate for families, and I wanna stand up for the place that we call home," she said. The candidate framed protecting marshland families and ensuring developers pay for necessary infrastructure as central to her approach.
