Red Clay board votes 4–3 to hold four town halls to guide superintendent search

The Red Clay Consolidated School District board voted 4–3 on July 21 to hold four community town halls to collect public input on the district—s permanent superintendent search. The motion, moved by Mister Matthews, instructed the district to host sessions on July 29 and July 30 and amended to add August 5 and August 6. "I would like to move that the Red Clay Consolidated School Board host the town hall in the suburbs of the Red Clay Consolidated School District on 07/29/2026 at 6PM, and that we also post a town hall in the city, of Wilmington, the city portion of Red Clay, 07/30/2026, also at 6PM," Mister Matthews said when proposing the measure.

The amended motion passed after board discussion about notice and accessibility. President Torres confirmed the outcome after the roll call: "So we have a motion that has passed about holding, upcoming 4, community town halls, the 29th, 30th, 5th, and 6th, all at 6PM." Board members voting yes included Miss Howard, Devin Henson, Nash Landis and Mister Matthews; Miss English, Susan Sander and President Torres voted no. The board recorded the tally as four yes votes and three no votes and instructed staff to publicize the meetings and collect feedback.

The town halls will be conducted in a hybrid format with in-person board-member attendance encouraged and Zoom links provided for remote participants. District staff will publicize the events and collect metrics such as attendance counts, questions submitted and survey responses; those results will be compiled for the board—s August meeting to inform whether the board pursues an RFP, partners with a firm, or appoints an internal candidate.

The vote was limited to scheduling outreach and did not itself select a search method. The board will consider the compiled community feedback at its next regular meeting and may take formal action then.
