Council nominates Jim Carter to Denton-area 9-1-1 board
Summary
Council nominated incumbent Jim Carter as the city's nominee to the Denton-area 9-1-1 board after staff reported the city received one resident resume and the incumbent also expressed interest; a conflict-of-interest question prompted an abstention from one councilmember.
City staff advised council that Highland Village has the opportunity to nominate a candidate to the Denton-area 9-1-1 board and that two individuals had expressed interest: incumbent Jim Carter and a later applicant. "We did receive 1 resume from a resident that's interested in serving on the board, and Mr. Carter also reported that he would be interested in serving on the board," staff said.
Mayor Pro Tem Fiorenza asked the city attorney whether his coworker relationship with one applicant required abstention; he said he would abstain from the vote. Councilmember Rhonda nominated Jim Carter to the slate of nominees; the nomination was seconded and carried by voice. Staff noted that because terms are staggered the council was nominating one candidate this year and final appointment will be determined later when the board processes nominees from member cities.
