Court Administrator Teresa Hill told the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners the proposed MAPE (Michigan Association of Public Employees) letter of understanding maintains the magistrate pay rate but increases overall cost because magistrate coverage hours will expand. Commissioner David Comai moved to approve the LOU; the roll call vote was 6 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent (Matley), and the motion carried.
Hill told commissioners the county previously shared coverage with Crawford County and described the coverage need as the reason for the change. The board directed Hill to return to the Oct. 23 budget workshop with court‑budget details and funding options for the expanded coverage.
