The Kalkaska County Board unanimously passed Resolution 2024‑42 on Sept. 18 to lift the hiring freeze and allow the appointment of Gayenell Gentelia to the county Zoning Administrator vacancy. The motion was made by Commissioner Jeff Sieting and supported by Commissioner David Comai.
Administrator David Schaeffer told the board the Zoning Administrator position will also encompass Soil Erosion duties, and the board recorded that any outstanding qualifications must be completed by Oct. 21, 2024. Separately, the board earlier approved Resolution 2024‑41 to lift the hiring freeze to permit the Treasurer to hire a temporary part‑time employee to train (the Treasurer‑elect, Valerie Tracey, is expected to work 29 hours or less a week to prepare for the position).
