Engineers present two Library Bay boardwalk concepts; public input favors mixed materials and a June 23 workshop

Vierbicher engineer Brandon Fuller presented two concept plans for the Library Bay boardwalk and gateway paths at the June 9 Joint Beautification/Lake, Parks, and Recreation Committee meeting. Option one places an ADA switchback on the southern portion of the property, with a wood-and-asphalt boardwalk and a brick gateway path; option two places the switchback on the northern side, with an all-wood boardwalk and a concrete gateway path. The committee identified the public workshop on June 23 as the next step for public review.

Committee members and members of the public offered several specific alternatives during discussion, including using stamped concrete for the gateway, eliminating the ADA switchback, adding a sidewalk on Lake Drive, installing stairs from the gateway down to the boardwalk, and using wood for the segment between the piers and gateway stairs while using asphalt toward the fishing pier. Engineer Flunker told the committee the next step is public presentation of the designs. The committee did not adopt a preferred concept at the meeting; staff and engineers will bring the options to the June 23 workshop for public comment and further direction.
