Jack Shattuck elected chair, Larry Tiejema named vice-chair in 4–3 roll calls

Jack Shattuck was elected chair of the Ionia County Board of Commissioners at the Jan. 14 meeting after a secret ballot produced four votes for Shattuck and three for Commissioner Terence Frewen. The board approved a motion to cast a secret ballot (moved by Commissioner David Hodges and supported by Commissioner Larry Tiejema); Clerk Greg Geiger and Treasurer Judith Clark tallied the results.
The board then held a separate roll-call vote for vice-chair. Larry Tiejema received four votes and was declared vice-chair; David Hodges received three votes. The reorganization occurred during the meeting’s organizational agenda and was the first formal action after the call to order.
