Regional mapping changes under Act 181: Stamford draft village center boundaries reviewed

Samantha Page of the Bennington County Regional Commission walked the Stamford Planning Commission through a draft future land‑use map developed under Act 181. Page said RPCs statewide are adopting a standard 10‑category system so regional plans use consistent labels for growth areas, village centers, rural conservation and other categories. "All of the regional planning commissions throughout the state are now using the same categories for those land use maps," she said.
Page stressed the regional map is separate from the town's zoning map or town plan map; changes on the regional map do not automatically override local zoning. She explained that if Stamford wants to expand or redraw village center boundaries, BCRC can draft those changes and, once the regional plan is approved at the state level, the designation will be applied automatically. Page provided paper copies of the draft map and encouraged commissioners to submit edits before the fall finalization window.
