Commission delays decision on library alcohol plan after safety concerns

Commissioners, however, raised concerns about policing a large open boardwalk—neighboring Forest Service lands and multiple exit points mean patrons could leave with alcohol—and questioned how off-sale sealed items (for retail purchase) would be prevented from being consumed on the grounds.
Several commissioners and staff referenced a written objection from an absent member (Steve) who had asked to limit consumption to within the building/patio only. After back-and-forth about special-event permits, sheriff involvement, and operational controls, the commission agreed to table the request for a full outdoor license and asked the presenter to return with a narrowed proposal that would focus initially on the building, patio and near-building areas (roughly a 100-foot perimeter) and a set of sheriff-notification parameters for larger events.
The presenter agreed to provide additional operational details and to work with the sheriff’s department on suggested parameters for event notification and enforcement.
