Acting city engineer Andrew Luna presented the public-works capital program, telling the council that 36 projects are currently underway in various stages of design and construction with an approximate value of $35,000,000. For the proposed fiscal year, staff proposed 36 new projects worth about $15,000,000, which would bring the pipeline to roughly $50,000,000 of active work if all projects proceed.
Luna said projects range from gateway and park improvements to traffic-signal work and pump-station design. "In the process of 4 years, there are 36 projects in progress, which are in various stages, including preplanning, designing, construction, approximately valued at $35,000,000," he said. Staff cautioned that limited engineering capacity and difficulty recruiting contract engineers could create backlogs in project delivery.
