Veterans volunteer steps forward; commissioners work to secure meeting space and leadership

At public comment Brandy McCool identified herself as a veteran and offered to help the veterans working group with outreach and benefits access, saying she helps veterans with benefits, affidavits and paperwork.
“Right now I do the different looking part and I make sure that they get their benefits,” McCool said, describing recent client wins and offering to join the working group and help maintain its Facebook presence.
In the veterans working‑group update Commissioner Williamson said a volunteer who initially agreed to lead then stepped down but later indicated willingness to return; Williamson said she plans to start by scheduling an initial meeting and exploring library space or other public meeting venues. Commissioners discussed the council chamber, library room availability and partnership with the American Legion and other local organizations to provide space and outreach support.
Commissioners designated liaison roles and emphasized the commission’s role is to support and help the groups find sustainable meeting arrangements rather than to run the groups directly. Staff agreed to help identify city facilities and to report back on availability.
