He emphasized the timeline — an RFP would require substantial lead time to ensure any new vendor has sufficient trucks and routes ready if a switch is chosen.
Representatives from potential vendors addressed council. Braxton Zella (Texas Disposal Systems) said the company was "interested in throwing our hat in the ring" should the city issue an RFP. Tanya Claussen (ACDI) described the current program features (resident carts, multiple commercial options, city cleanups) and raised recycling and battery fire safety concerns at regional facilities.
Council voted to direct staff to draft a two‑year extension ordinance (the last extension permitted under the contract) and return it for formal approval; members asked staff to include an analysis of optional services such as an optional third cart for yard waste and improved KPI tracking of satisfaction trends. The matter will return to council as an ordinance item.
