'Cycling with the Mayor' draws families to Prairie Lights, longtime attendees say

The "Cycling with the Mayor" ride that accompanies Prairie Lights once again drew a large turnout of men, women and children to Lynn Creek Park, the reporter said. The ride, which Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen started more than a decade ago as part of the Get Fit GP initiative, is described by event participants as the most popular in the city's cycling series.
A resident who spoke during coverage described the scene as a family tradition: "There's been people that have been here every year. Their kids are older now. They used to ride on the back of their bicycle. Now they're riding their own bicycle," the resident said, adding that the lights show attracts visitors from across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Organizers and participants encouraged families to attend and emphasized the event's family-friendly atmosphere.
