Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen led the annual "Cycling with the Mayor" ride to open Prairie Lights' 20th anniversary season at Lynn Creek Park, a reporter announced. The event opened on Thanksgiving Day and the lights are scheduled to be open nightly through New Year's Eve, Dec. 31.
The reporter said the cycling event, which Jensen started more than a decade ago to promote the city's Get Fit GP initiative, remains the most popular ride of the year for the series and attracts a large turnout. An attendee described the event as a multigenerational tradition that draws families from across the Dallas–Fort Worth area: "It's a massive show of of there's people getting out here with their families," the resident said, adding that longtime visitors now bring older children who ride their own bikes.
Organizers and participants highlighted that Prairie Lights is an award-winning holiday lights experience that has become a local tradition. For information about hours, tickets, and visitor guidance, the reporter directed listeners to prairielights.org. The lights run nightly through Dec. 31.
