DeKalb Police Department earns Tier 2 reaccreditation from Illinois chiefs

The DeKalb Police Department received a Tier 2 reaccreditation plaque from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program in a presentation to the city council on July 27. Darren Gault, police chief of Moline and 2nd vice president of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, said the ILEAP review covers policy and practice across administration, training, operations and personnel.
"DeKalb Police Department has achieved tier 2, our highest accreditation level," Gault said, explaining the program evaluates compliance with 181 important standards. Chief David Byrd thanked his staff for preparing for the review and told the council the department "exceeded these standards," praising the work of civilian staff and former deputy chief Jason Leverton who led the accreditation effort. The reaccreditation requires departments to undergo review every four years, the presenter said.
