Council tables U-Haul conditional-use appeal at 109 Industrial Drive pending code fixes

Planning staff told council the existing warehouse storage use has seven parking spaces but that a U-Haul rental use would require about 20 spaces; the Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously recommended denial on parking and public-safety visibility concerns. Mr. Morgan explained that the presence of U-Haul trucks on the property is currently a zoning violation.
Applicant Marcellus Austin asked the council to allow a limited number of smaller trucks and said his nonprofit uses rental income to fund youth programs and a food pantry. "We only need to have at least 3 trucks there," Austin said. Councilmembers expressed concern about large box trucks currently on site (Austin acknowledged roughly seven are present, including a 26-foot truck), and directed code enforcement to require removal of oversized trucks and resolution of open violations before the item returns. The council moved to table the CUP to the August 18 agenda and instructed staff to expect the applicant to present a revised site/parking plan and resolved code cases.
