Kalkaska County flags Civic Center roof and DPW equipment needs during 2025 budget review

County Administrator David Schaeffer and DPW Supervisor Tony Parcher used the Oct. 23 workshop to highlight capital and maintenance needs across county facilities, stressing limited funds to address them in the 2025 budget. Schaeffer told the board the budget was the most complex he has worked with and that targeted building assessments by an engineer were needed to prioritize repairs.
DPW Supervisor Tony Parcher provided a high-level recap of building needs and urged preparation of a five-year plan to guide equipment purchases and maintenance work. Commissioners discussed county grounds care, including the fairgrounds, Log Lake and Rugg Pond, and the role of user groups in ongoing maintenance and scheduling.
Commissioners and staff did not adopt specific project budgets during the workshop; Schaeffer asked staff to refine cost estimates so the board can consider priorities during the November review.
