Manistee County says public input on countywide recreation plan to wrap up in early March

Planning Director Katie Gruenberg told the Manistee County Recreation Commission that public input collection for the county-wide recreation plan is ongoing and is expected to conclude in late February or early March 2026. Staff will begin drafting local goals and objectives with municipalities in February, with a target to complete a draft by June 2026 and submit it to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for review.
The plan timeline presented to the commission anticipates a 30-day public comment period in August, a final draft ready in November–December 2026, and uploading the completed plan and approvals to the MI Grants portal so entities can pursue a 2027 grant by the Feb. 1, 2027 deadline. Ms. Gruenberg also said outreach to local units is underway to update community profiles and recreation inventories and noted that a few local units had not yet finalized participation.
