Mountrail County asks ND Supreme Court to retain Judgeship No. 1 in North Central Judicial District

State’s Attorney Wade Enget informed the Board that Judge Douglas L. Mattson will retire, creating a vacancy in Judgeship No. 1, Chambers in Minot, effective June 1, 2025. Commissioners voted to send a letter of response to the North Dakota Supreme Court urging that Judgeship No. 1 be retained for the North Central Judicial District to preserve effective judicial administration in Mountrail County and the district.
The motion to send the support letter passed by unanimous roll call. The Board’s action clarifies the county’s position to the Supreme Court during the consultation process triggered by a judicial vacancy.
