Disabled American Veterans chapter to lease space at fire headquarters; council recognizes new fire promotions

The Cedar Hill City Council unanimously approved a lease authorizing Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 240 to use shared nonprofit office space within the city’s fire department headquarters, a step the chapter says will allow expanded walk-in services and veteran programming.
A chapter representative described the group’s growth since chartering in April 2021 and highlighted services including claims assistance, resource fairs, PTSD support groups and other veteran-focused outreach. The representative said the new space will enable walk-in services whereas the chapter currently runs by appointment only.
Earlier in the meeting Chief Harrison introduced and pinned newly promoted personnel: Ryan Valencia Gafford (promoted to driver engineer), Chris Holcomb (driver engineer and inspector in fire prevention) and Tammy Cooper (now chief/fill-in fire marshal after prior service with the police department). Council congratulated the individuals and the DAV representatives for their community service. The lease item was pulled from consent for discussion; councilmember McCurdy moved to approve the lease and the motion carried unanimously.
