Health Officer Ms. Cetrulo told the Board on June 9 that "a Mahwah resident presented with a positive measles PCR," and a laboratory sample was forwarded to the New Jersey Public Health and Environmental Lab (NJPHEL) to determine whether the positive result was vaccine-related or due to environmental contagion.
Ms. Cetrulo said public health nurses were engaged for follow-up while the lab completes further testing. The Board unanimously approved the Health Officer’s report for May 2026 during the meeting.
The Health Officer also reported that the SLPH grant cycle ended with $193,000 expended and that the Division of Local Public Health (DLPH) will provide a new $119,000 grant that begins July 1, 2026, and runs through Nov. 30, 2027. Ms. Cetrulo said part of the funds will offset Ms. Akiyama’s salary and that additional funds will support acquisition of improved licensing software to replace the current system, Spatial Data Logic (SDL), which has shown glitches since its merger with GovPilot.
Board members voted unanimously to accept the Health Officer’s report. The next Board meeting is scheduled for July 14, 2026.
