Traill County approves letter backing three-bridge Red River bundle after 4–1 vote

The Traill County Commission on Feb. 3 approved a letter supporting a three-bridge restoration bundle with Norman County, Minn., to repair Red River crossings. Commissioner Ken Nesvig moved to approve the letter; Commissioner Eblen seconded, and the motion carried 4–1, with Commissioner Elliott recording the lone nay.
Corwyn Martin, the county road superintendent, told commissioners he had purchased a truck that was included in the highway budget and relayed a state request to place a load restriction on Bridge No. 399. Martin said, because the bridge sits on a minimum-maintenance road, the county will close that road for the winter and install new signage in the spring. KLJ engineer Matt Lange asked the board to sign the support letter to help secure funding for the bridge bundle and explained how Transportation Flex funding pairs with Prairie Dog awards.
Lange also reported that Belmont Township received a Flex Prairie Dog award covering Bridges No. 5, 13 and 14; Traill County is expected to contribute 10% of those project costs. The commission’s vote authorizes the county to express support as part of a multi-jurisdictional funding package; the motion record shows Eblen, Nesvig, Young and Amb voting aye and Elliott voting nay.
The commission did not set a date for final grant applications; Lange and county staff signaled further project-level details would follow during later highway budget or grant sessions.
