Library board authorizes $720 for patron hotspot access as AARP grant ends

At its June 25 meeting, the Minot-Sleeper Library Board of Trustees authorized the library director to spend up to $720 to maintain patron hotspot service after an AARP grant that previously funded the accounts runs out in July. Treasurer Paul Regan reported the ongoing cost at an estimated $120 per month and recommended using the library’s technology budget to maintain access for patrons.
Paul Regan moved to authorize the Director to spend up to $720 for hotspot access for the remainder of the fiscal year; Brenda Buchanan seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Separately, Karen Boyd’s motion to allow the Director to transfer up to $720 from the Youth Services salary line to technology also passed, providing an internal funding mechanism for the same need. Director Jess Ross had indicated support for prioritizing hotspot access as a patron resource.
