Commissioner urges Acceptable Use Policy changes; board discusses CMDHD access to GIS

County Commissioner Rex Wolfsen told the Feb. 25 meeting that the draft Acceptable Use Policy needs language changes and should be combined with the Information & Technology Policy; he raised specific concerns about use of external USB/zip drives, whether PINs are required to access county systems, the legality of using cell phones hands free while driving, and whether annual security training remains required. Wolfsen said he will meet with IT Director Priest to address those questions.
Separately, Chair Darlene Sensor said she had discussed statutory requirements with Administrator/Controller Shaltz and Equalization Director Houserman. Commissioner Kim Morley noted several counties use the Fetch system so the Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) can access GIS information for free; Roscommon County does not participate in Fetch. The board discussed the importance of consistent charging for data access but did not adopt a specific new policy during the meeting.
