Lake Manager Chase Schepke told the Roscommon County Board on Feb. 25 that work on a Higgins Lake water‑budget is ongoing and that he met with the project advisory group. Schepke said he will have engineering firm Fahey Schultz contact the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) with four specific questions: what EGLE would require to design or install a restrictor plate in front of the Lake Level Control Structure (LLCS); what EGLE would require for a total replacement of the structure; what variations EGLE would allow; and what flow requirements EGLE requires down The Cut.
Schepke also reported localized conditions at Higgins Lake, noting a far bay with about four inches of cracking and water levels approximately three‑quarters of an inch below summer level. He told the board that consistent precipitation would best help the lake levels. No formal decision or funding action for structural changes was recorded in the meeting minutes.
