Box Elder County CDBG meeting approves $195,000 grant application to connect Riverside well to culinary system

At a Box Elder County CDBG meeting, members approved a $195,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to fund an 8-inch pipeline that would connect a nearby well to the Riverside culinary water system, volunteer Maryann Lane said.

Lane, who identified herself as a Riverside volunteer who helped write the application, said the project “is really going to improve the lives of the people who get water in that area because they some of them can't flush their toilets or run the sprinklers and shower at the same time.” She said the pipeline is intended to improve water pressure and flow for affected residents.

Lane described the proposed well as being near the Plymouth solar fields and said Roy Welling owned the well and offered it to RNG. The plan calls for running roughly 400 feet south from the well and tying into pipe already placed under the freeway; the grant request covers the pipeline hookup only, not conversion of the well house to a full culinary system. Lane said the project would use an existing 8-inch pipe approach into Riverside, toward Belmont Springs road and the north end of Garland.

Lane told the committee they expect to learn whether the grant is awarded in about six weeks and confirmed the application requests $195,000; she noted that asking for $200,000 would preclude applying in the following year. A committee member recommended appending the relevant excerpt from the county master water plan to the application rather than the full plan to keep supporting documents focused.

The Chair moved to approve the Box Elder County RNG CDBG grant application, and a committee member seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote. Members arranged to sign the application documents and provide a copy to Lane afterward.

Next steps: the applicant will receive the county's signed documents and wait for the grant award decision, expected in roughly six weeks.
