Simply Cycle awarded 2026 EDA Business Growth Grant to upgrade fleet and add accessibility options

Eli Dancy, owner of Simply Cycle, told the Charles City County Economic Development Authority that his company has operated in the county for more than four years with automated bike rental locations and indoor cycling at Market 5. The Business Growth Grant application requests funding to replace 14 single-gear bicycles with multi-gear models, add two electric bicycles for seniors and riders with accessibility needs, and purchase helmets to be provided free with e-bike rentals.
"If funding is approved, Simply Cycle would also be able to hire one additional full-time employee," Dancy said during his presentation, describing plans to have the upgraded fleet operational by April 1. The Board reviewed the proposal and voted to award the 2026 Business Growth Grant to Simply Cycle; the motion passed unanimously. The Director will coordinate grant award logistics and any required follow-up reporting to the EDA.
