Staff to publish Town Center draft and expanded notices; public hearing set for Aug. 25

At the close of the town-center discussion, staff outlined next steps for public outreach and a hearing schedule.

Staff said they would publish a draft of the revised Town Center code and perform expanded public noticing—"double or triple the amount of time" required by code—to ensure property owners and business operators have ample time to review materials. Commissioners recommended adding a short FAQ and context paragraphs to mailed notices explaining how the code affects single-family owners and businesses; staff agreed and committed to posting the draft and FAQ on the city website.

Staff announced that the public hearing on the Town Center draft will be held on August 25, approximately four weeks after the meeting. The commission asked staff to explicitly state that single-family homeowners will generally not be affected by the design standards for redevelopment, and to include that clarification in mailed notices and FAQs.

Why it matters: clearer outreach and an extended notice period are intended to reduce confusion among property owners and to frame the Town Center draft as a long-term implementation tool rather than an immediate requirement on existing businesses.

Next steps: staff will publish the draft, prepare FAQs and mail expanded notices to property owners in advance of the August 25 public hearing.
