Board backs application for up to $400,000 in pre-disaster flood resilience funding

The Vernon County Board voted to apply for up to $400,000 in Wisconsin Pre-Disaster Flood Resilience Grant funding to support county-wide culvert inventories (culverts under six feet in diameter) and Hydrologic and Hydraulic (H&H) studies in the West Fork and Coon Creek watersheds. Zoning Administrator Matt Albright outlined that the project will inventory culverts by size and location and complete H&H studies downstream of dams to inform future mitigation projects.
The grant is reimbursement-based and requires a 25% local match, which will be provided from Community Development budget support and Ho-Chunk funds for match support. The grant awards will be announced in early 2025; if awarded, the Community Development Department will manage the grant. The resolution authorizing the application was adopted on a voice vote (Resolution 2024-50).
