County to advance Fair master plan with $400,000 transfer; Fair board explores loan repayment option

Commissioner Colleen M. Swedyk said the county intends to transfer $400,000 from the Auto Title Fund to support the first phase of a master facility plan for the Medina County Fair. Treasurer/Finance staff will research whether a county loan arrangement is feasible in which the Fair Board would repay the county at a more favorable rate than open-market borrowing.
Fair Board representative Denise Gerspacher told commissioners the Fair Board is enthusiastic about the project and described planned improvements including updated, accessible restrooms, replacement of an aging ticket booth, and new space for junior fair leaders. Economic Development staff said they will pursue the upcoming Brownfields grant round to address a deteriorated building on the fairgrounds.
