New Brant Pike lift station planned near Walmart with $2 million estimate

Staff presented plans to solicit bids for a new Brant Pike lift station to replace two older stations (one adjacent to a Shell station and another across the street). Russ said the current late-1960s pump station could not reliably be repaired because parts were no longer available and that building a larger station near Walmart will allow removal of the two older units.
Russ said the new station was designed by LJB Engineering and has been approved by the EPA. He provided an estimated project cost "up to $2,000,000" and said the sewer fund would cover the expense. The new station will be sized to accommodate current flows and potential future development in nearby parcels, and staff described routing changes, including boring under Brant Pike, to connect the old lines to the new station. The council moved the solicitation forward to allow staff to solicit bids and return with results for formal action.
Council members asked whether demolition of the existing stations would remove all structures and how flows would be rerouted; staff confirmed demolition and described re-route via new manholes and a force main to downstream facilities.
