School board approves 2026–27 student code of conduct after split vote

The Prince George County School Board approved the 2026–27 Code of Student Conduct and safety handbook at its July 27 special work session following a split roll call.

Staff member (S4), who presented the item, told the board the action is a formalization of a prior consensus: “we're just asking tonight for formal action to be taken to approve the 2627 student code of conduct and safety handbook.” Board member (S3) moved to approve the code and the Chair (S1) seconded the motion.

The roll call produced mixed votes: Miss Christ and Mr. Ealy voted yes; Miss Taylor and Miss Andrews voted no; another board member voted yes. Rob Ealy participated by phone for the student conduct section and left the meeting after that item. The motion carried with a majority in favor.

Board members who opposed the measure did not state amendments on the record during the vote but expressed concerns earlier in the meeting about implementation details and whether particular procedural language should be clarified in administrative regulations rather than in the policy itself.

The board will publish the approved handbook and staff indicated any further adjustments would come through the regulations and future work sessions or agenda items.
