Barnwell County Council on April 1, 2026, confirmed that Generations Unlimited (GRU) closed effective March 31, 2026, and said senior services will continue through the Gail Reaves Center. Chairman Freddie L. Houston Sr. told the special called meeting that "March 31, 2026, was the last day for GRU," and that the county has one small van to deliver meals to seniors who cannot travel to the center.
Houston said the Gail Reaves Center will remain open while GRU is closed and that all non-SCDOT vehicles formerly used for GRU services are parked inside the Gail Reaves fenced area. He added that SCDOT-owned vans were no longer in county use as of March 31 and that the state agency will send forms documenting ending miles for each vehicle. The council noted that the county will continue to arrange service delivery for seniors, with Administrator Riley designated as the county's point of contact for Gail Reaves/Generations Unlimited.
