The Common Council adopted the Public Works Committee report, authorizing several state municipal agreements, project revisions and grant acceptances for street and bridge projects across Milwaukee.
Committee recommendations included acceptance of Wisconsin Department of Transportation funding and the State Municipal Maintenance Agreement for a green infrastructure maintenance area near the Milwaukee Overpass (14th Aldermanic District); authorization of an operating agreement with the Badgerland Striders for the 2025 Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon; and multiple state municipal agreements for the North-South Freeway (I-43) Beecher Interchange and other highway projects with estimated total costs and city/grantor shares recorded in committee documents. One listing noted an estimated total project cost of $5,363,500 with an expected city share and grantor contributions; other project adjustments showed cost decreases and city-share increases on large projects.
The committee also recommended acceptance of a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District grant for permeable pavers installation on South 9th Street and post-installation maintenance covenants. The Public Works report (with the exception of one held item) was adopted by roll call (14 ayes, 1 excused). Council members asked clarifying questions about construction cost estimates, funding sources and the city share on several projects.
