Board authorizes treasurer to correct lake-level special-assessment rules

Roscommon County commissioners on March 10 voted to authorize the county treasurer to amend confirmed lake-level special-assessment rules to correct clerical errors and adjust for changes in parcel divisions.
Clerk and Register of Deeds Michelle read Resolution 2026-03-01 aloud and explained the proposed amendments are intended to ensure accuracy in assessment records without increasing total district costs. "Be it further resolved that the treasurer is authorized to take all necessary actions to update the assessment records, notify the affected property owners as required by law," she read. The board adopted the resolution by roll call (Morley: Yes; Wolfson: Yes; Millburn: Yes). The resolution applies to Higgins Lake, Houghton Lake and Lake St. Helen lake-level special-assessment districts and delegates limited corrective authority to the treasurer consistent with state law.
Commissioners said the change was administrative in nature. The clerk noted the treasurer must notify affected property owners and include adjusted assessments on the tax roll for the ensuing year. No changes to assessment totals were proposed during the discussion.
