Emergency Management Director Vanessa Varner briefed the board on the selection: a committee reviewed six proposals against five criteria (experience, community understanding, work plan/approach, cost/value and references) and found Crisis Ready Lab best matched the county’s goals and budget. Varner described the firm’s willingness to meet in person with community stakeholders and to provide GIS updates and final in‑person presentations. “They fit our goals,” Varner said; the contract includes a multi‑month update process beginning 03/01/2026 and completing 09/01/2026.
The board approved the motion by roll-call vote. Commissioners commented that selecting a firm within the county’s DNR grant cap meant the county would not need to allocate local match dollars, and several members praised the selection committee for scoring and staying within the $50,000 threshold. The award and the DNR reimbursement arrangement were recorded as formal board actions in the meeting minutes.
