County Recorder Danielle Petersen told the board that Midwest Imaging had provided an estimated cost of $300,000 to $400,000 to back-scan recorded documents. Petersen said her office has $28,000 in its Document Preservation fund and cannot proceed with the full scanning project at this time.
Petersen proposed using the Mountrail County large-format scanner to scan plat maps, which are currently bound in books or rolled in boxes, and acquiring two plat-map cabinets to store maps flat and reduce damage. The board discussed funding options and agreed the recorder should explore alternatives, including shared scanning arrangements and protective storage.
