County approves Veterans report, septic grant, claims and holds two personnel reviews in closed session

The board approved the Veteran Affair’s monthly report for March 6, 2026 (motion by Craig Merrill, second Faulstick). Supervisors then met in closed session at 9:07 a.m. to review Zoning & Solid Waste manager Aletha King’s annual performance (requested by King) and again at 9:22 a.m. for IRVM staff Kent Malm’s annual review; both closed sessions cited Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(i). The board exited closed session after each review (9:20 a.m. and 9:32 a.m., respectively).
After closed session the board approved a septic grant application for Patty Schany (motion by Faulstick, second Merrill) and approved county claims and drainage claims for March 10, 2026. The claims ledger in the minutes lists many line items, including Palo Alto County Public Health: $60,753.00; Upper Des Moines Opportunity: $10,000.00; and City of Spencer sanitation services: $20,213.49. The motions were recorded as carried unanimously.
