Floyd County Environmental Health staff proposed three ordinance updates and the Board voted to recommend adoption by the Board of Supervisors. Jessy Willadsen outlined two proposed amendments to the Nuisance Ordinance (2007-3)—including adding an 'Inadequate Maintenance' section—and a proposed update to the Board of Health Ordinance (137) to classify violations and penalties as county infractions. Willadsen said the changes would "align the ordinances more closely with Iowa Code" and would help the county address deteriorating properties such as the 1539 Rock Grove property that may require nuisance declarations to prompt corrective action.
Denise Pavlovich moved that the Board recommend the Board of Supervisors adopt the proposed violation and penalty amendments to both ordinances and add the inadequate maintenance section to the Nuisance Ordinance; Joanne Robinson seconded and all members present voted aye. Because BOH is recommending rather than adopting, final action rests with the Board of Supervisors.
