County, District 60 agree to free use of Beulah Heights Elementary as recovery center

Pueblo County approved an intergovernmental agreement with Pueblo School District 60 on July 28 that allows the county to use Beulah Heights Elementary School free of charge to host a Recovery Assistance Center (RAC) and, if needed, an emergency shelter during the Aspen Acres fire recovery.
Joshua Johnson of the sheriff’s office said District 60 Superintendent Dr. Kimsey made the vacant building available while the district consolidates schools, and that county personnel receive custodial services five days a week while retaining limited public access to the bus loop and playground. Johnson estimated the county might use the facility for roughly four months as numbers of people needing assistance decline. Commissioners thanked District 60 staff for the partnership and approved the IGA.
