Board reviews plan to adopt Acadience screener for K–1 to meet state literacy rules

Dr. Rubenstein introduced a proposal for a new universal screener and said the change was driven by recent state guidance: "What we are bringing to you before, what we're bringing to you, tonight is, an assessment called Acadience," he said, describing Acadience (DIBELS successor) as a measure that screens early reading risk, monitors progress, and includes a dyslexia screener for K–1.
The administration recommended discontinuing MAP Growth Primary for K–1 and using Acadience three times per year for early identification and tiered interventions. Board members pressed on timing and capacity: one member asked whether assessors would be ready for screenings beginning in late August, and the administration said they built professional learning time into the first weeks of school and would monitor implementation closely. The board will consider a formal vote in August after public review.
