Logan County approves bridge replacement agreement with BNSF and ODOT for Simmons Road

The Board of Logan County Commissioners on Feb. 13 approved an agreement with BNSF Railway Co. and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to replace a bridge on Simmons Road under CIRB project JP #26095(08). The motion to approve the agreement was recorded as: "THAT, agreement with BNSF Railway Co. and ODOT for CIRB project bridge replacement on Simmon Road, JP #26095(08), be approved." The vote was unanimous (Piearcy-AYE, Sharpton-AYE, Coffman-AYE).
After the vote, Commissioner Monty Piearcy questioned the project’s cost implications for county taxpayers. Piearcy said the required NEPA study adds roughly "$30,000 of taxpayer dollars" and that some projects may not need that level of study. He also told the board that "BNSF Railroad want him to pay 50% of cost for repairing/replacing two crossings" and stated he did not believe the county should pay for work done in the BNSF right-of-way. The board did not take further action on cost-sharing at the meeting; no response from BNSF or ODOT appears in the record.
