Northwoods Transit Connections (NTC) presented an operational update to the Oneida County ADRC Committee on June 22. Ms. Barb Newman said NTC formed a county partnership in 2015 and began transporting clients on May 2, 2016; since then the service has provided approximately 280,000 one-way miles of rides, covering Oneida and Vilas counties and serving Headwaters, Inc. The operator reported NTC currently employs three full-time staff, two part-time staff and 15 part-time drivers and operates a fleet of nine buses, three transit vans and two minivans for daily rides and special-program transport (food pantry, grocery trips, ADRC events).
Newman told the committee that daily operating costs — salaries, fuel, maintenance and insurance — are funded through Department of Transportation grants. She said one van is out of commission pending a grant-funded repair, and NTC is evaluating a parcel on Julia Lake Road for a new operations building; a land survey has been completed and the group is awaiting an appraisal. Committee members discussed capital needs and grant timing but did not take formal action beyond receiving the report. The presentation signals ongoing reliance on targeted transportation grants to sustain paratransit services in the region.
